I had a close friend in Japan, upstanding citizen, hardworker, independent, decent savings, but not quite enough wealth to qualify for an investor's visa. Every year he tried the "diversity" lottery and every year he was turned down because hordes of towelheads from third world s***holes swamped the entrants to that lottery.

Yes. Thanks for setting the record straight. Another thing that really sucks about the lottery is those already here illegally can apply. Most of the civilized world won't even consider giving a visa to someone unless they are changing status (that is already in the country legally) or applying from the outside. Exceptions are for humanatarian and asylum reasons only and even wide-open Australia makes them apply from (a)outside the country or (b)a detention centre.
