[history]
France and Germany, the two countries at the forefront of opposition to the U.S. hard line against Iraq, have a long history of commercial and other contacts with the regime of Saddam Hussein.
TotalFinaElf, France's huge oil firm, holds the contract to develop Iraq's southern Majnoon and Nahr Umar oil fields, which could contain as much as 25 percent of the country's reserves.

Smells like Franco-Germans might secretly be using proxy warfare against the US to advance their EU scheme... not impossible

Nah, they wouldn't do that....

Great article.
I have book marked it for use with those who get upset when I comment about Soddomite being the biggest cash cow the French and Germans have.
Just follow the blood money from the Opecker Islamofacist thugs, and it is easy to see why certain groups are fighting so hard to save their Uncle Soddomite. He is a huge Cash Cow to those who support him!

Leave it to the Washington Times. At least they don't editorialize under the guise of news.

If Biden made this remark, he is to be commended:
Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., Delaware Democrat, at a recent Senate hearing on the future of a post-Saddam Iraq, recalled being told repeatedly during a recent European trip by skeptics that the debate about an Iraq war was "really about oil."
"And I agreed with them," Mr. Biden recalled. "It is about oil French oil and Russian oil."

This is a great article.
One of the things the article shows that this is all about oil, French and Russian Oil!

Something interesting to think about.
EU ministers rebuke spendthrift France
"France has felt the ire of the European Union (EU), after receiving a warning that it must fix its budget deficit by 2006 or face the consequences.
This is the second such warning in a month, after Germany was given until 21 May to rein in spending. "
Where exactly is the oil money going?
To: Grampa Dave
Won't it be a crying shame if our B-52's manage to "accidently" hit all the French and Germany owned factories in Iraq?

Excellent article here, finally the cat's out of the bag.
One other important factor in the French, German, Russian and Chinese connection with Iraq is the weapons. I would guess 95% of Iraqi military hardware and weapons were provided by these countries.
I think it's to soon to say that these countries are supporting terrorism, rather I think they just don't care who they sell their weapons too.

You may have missed this:
At the annual Baghdad international trade fair in November, the Iraqi Information Ministry reported that Saddam himself had ordered domestic buyers to "give priority" to German companies as a reward for "the firm positive stand of Germany in rejecting the launching of a military attack against Iraq by the U.S." Some 101 German companies were represented at the Baghdad exposition, including companies offering air-conditioning equipment, energy and transportation services, cosmetics, textiles and other products.
Direct two-way trade between Germany and Iraq amounts to about $350 million annually, while another $1 billion is sold via third countries, according to Iraqi authorities.

This is appropriate behavior by the french. I mean after all, they did invent the escalator to expedite the loading of Jews onto boxcars to travel into Poland and eastern Germany in the 40's. </puking sarcasm off

I'm glad we got that oil question 'clarified.' I was about to boycott French and Russian salad dressing.

Olive oil is probably okay. Most of it comes from Italy, Spain or California.
