There is a WHOLE lot more to this story! This sounds like a personal thing. Why would cops attempt to arrest this guy in his home? A trip to get milk or a carton of smokes is a bit safer I would think.

Even this is no excuse for being trigger happy. Ready is one thing, trigger happy is quite another.

There is a WHOLE lot more to this story! This sounds like a personal thing. Yeh, I think so too. Given the sketchy details given:
Officers had been looking for the gunman who opened fire with an assault rifle on a police officer Wednesday. The officer was ambushed while responding to an apparently false report of a robbery.
Looks like the shooter planned to shoot a cop.

The gunman sprayed the officer's patrol car with bullets, firing about 20 shots. The officer was not hit.
How does this same guy go about wounding six cops in the same engagement?

I still wonder. I know it's not an easy job, but I still wonder.

What is it with Southern CA and big shootouts? It's all of those illegal aliens and pro-marijuana typse that keep...What? Louisiana? Never mind. ;)
I once read a story here about an accident in Birmingham once. I wondered (alound, on a thread) why I hadn't heard about it since I live 70 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama. Turns out it was Birmingham England. Doh!

Louisiana, not California Ah. I thought this one lacked that LA flair.

6 cops wounded by one suspect is fairly unusual.
North Hollywood was (2) loony terminators.
South Dixie Hwy in South Miami with the FBI was also (2) maniacs.

How does this same guy go about wounding six cops in the same engagement? With the sorry state of police training these days, it might be safe to assume that the cops shot eachother - or themselves.

Going buy the sketchy details, you may be very correct.

This sounds like 'suicide by cop'
Calls in a fake report and starts blasting when the cop shows up?
Apparently the first attempt to get him by the urban commadoes failed. He'll get what he's looking for soon enough I imagine...

Yes, that's no justification. Danger goes with the job.
If it makes you "trigger happy" then perhaps you should find another line of work..

I believe this is called police incompetence. In the original instance, the cop is not hit. They then proceed to get 6 officers shot trying to arrest someone who will obviously shoot at them. I think they need a hell of lot better training, and I hope no one paid with his life for it.
