The Japanese do have fairly disfunctional relationships between men and women. It was pretty sad not only watching men and women interact while I lived in Japan but the disfunctional way that many relationships are portrayed in their media. When one of the most popular romantic manga genres is gay male romances (I couldn't believe the sheer number of women producing fan manga in this genre at Comiket), something just isn't right with the place. As one American co-worker once responde when I told her that Japanese men would lover her high pitched voice, "Japanese men are pretty insecure, then."

Our robes aren't spotless, too, you know. We are right up there with Japan as a country murdering millions of babies in the womb annually, and drugs all over the place. We have no right to criticize.
