Top radio talker Rush Limbaugh and influential Arizona Senator John McCain don't usually see eye-to-eye on much.
But on Tuesday and Wednesday, the conservative megastar and the media's favorite Republican were on the same page, warning that continual public criticism of President Bush by ex-Presidents Carter and Clinton is encouraging America's enemies around the world.
"Jimmy Carter and his fellow failed president, Bill Clinton, are obviously competing to see who can be the most hostile to his own country in a time of war and who can attract bigger anti-American audiences in Europe," Limbaugh told his 20 million listeners on Tuesday.
Hours later, Sen. McCain told fellow radio talker Sean Hannity that Carter and Clinton are indulging in the kind of public criticism that "can do damage."
"It's very unhelpful. It's in some ways damaging," he complained.
Then, in completely unprecedented language for a Senator addressing two ex-presidents, the Arizona Republican added, "I just have two words: Shut up!"
Revisiting the theme on Wednesday, Limbaugh read NewsMax's exclusive coverage of McCain's remarks and then praised his sometime political nemesis, saying:
"McCain understands that these two stooges, who are pursuing their own agendas, can hurt the nation. Clinton presents the clearest and most-present danger, because Carter is 79-years-old and he is known for what he is - the Arafat prize aside."
A spokeswoman for Sen. Hillary Clinton curtly dismissed McCain's remarks Wednesday morning, saying, "I don't think that's appropriate."

Dear Mr. Carter,
I used to have a degree of respect for you. Your Habitat for Humanity efforts were comendable.
For some reason, during the Clinton era you came back into the international spotlight. Your efforts on the international scene have now highlighted your foreign failure during your presidency.
Your negotiated deal with North Korea on their nuclear program in 1994 has now come back to haunt this country. It has now been revealed what a farce that ""peace keeping" mission was. Your "deal" has enabled the gov't of N Korea to develope nuclear weapons without any monitering.
Thank you for your ineptitude. The "Peace Prize" has been a joke and people aren't laughing. You have contributed to detriment of this great country.
Please stick to pounding nails.
With regards,
