That's a lot of free publicity for pouring out 12 bottles (wholesale cost maybe $200-$300). You couldn't even buy a newspaper ad that cheap, let along TV time. Clever stunt, bound to impress the suckers.

This is stupid. Boycotting French produce will only hurt the French vintner, rancher, and farmer, not their government.

I'll state now and for the record that I buy French wine, French butter, and French cheese, and I'm going to keep doing so. The people who grow those grapes and raise those animals have nothing to do with the gang of cowardly bullies over in the Palais Elysée. If you want to protest, write them a letter.

If any of you feel you can no longer drink French wine, don't pour it out. Send it to me (address available via FreepMail).

Je voudre boire les vins Françaises. Vive la France!

What will get the French government's attention? A letter from an American or a crowd of angry French farmers?

Good. And if you don't think that will hurt their government, you're clean out of your mind.

The average Frenchman is fairly pro-American. What will turn them against America faster -- letting our diplomats work this problem out, or boycotting their produce and making it harder for the average Frenchmen to pay the bills and feed the family?

Just as Americans are responsible for the actions of their elected officials, so are French voters.

Boycotting French produce will only make the average French agricultural products producer poorer-- and, as a result, more angry at the United States, not at Jacques Chirac. A boycott will serve only to further vilify the United States in the eyes of the ordinary French citizen, and thus strengthen their support of Chirac.

Oh, so you and I were responsible for Bill Clinton?

Speak for yourself. I had nothing to do with him or his actions while president.

A boycott harms only the average Jacques, not his government. I see no sense in such a course of action.

Never underestimate the power of jingoism to rally stupid people around stupid actions.

Tonight I will buy a bottle of French wine and enjoy it with my wife.

A couple of the Country Clubs around here have canned French and German products from their kitchens and wine cellars as well.

Check you local grocery store next time you shop and see if there is a lot of Perrier on the shelf. At my local store in the past week i've noticed the other brands are outselling Perrier which is a change as it has been the top seller for years.

Q. Why doesn't Euro Disney have fireworks?

A. Because whenever they shoot them off, the French try to surrender.

Have you bothered to look at the surveys showing how the French citizenry feel about what their government is doing? They OVERWHELMINGLY agree with Chirac. Maybe someone can post a link. You're certainly welcome to spend your money however you wish, but you're off base when you talk as if the rank and file of France are a bunch of pro-American people. They're not. It's quite obvious they hate our guts.
