Israel's sea-based part of its nuclear triad. Preserving peace in the Middle East. But will Gerhard Shroeder help Israel, given that his Red-Green freak fanatics hate Israel?

One just might suspect, that there is 'motive' for hauling out this story, at this time...

They had better not expect to use US funds to purchase ANYTHING from Germany!

We have to build a few of these things for Taiwan anyway, don't we?
Seems we can generate some economies of scale if Israel buys the same thing.
Might as well cut Germany out of the loop altogether.

Since we no longer produce diesel subs, maybe Israel can buy them from Germany and then sell them to us so we can sell them to Taiwan.

The Israel Navy is putting together a request to purchase two additional Dolphin-model submarines from Germany. In light of the high cost of the deal - some $850 million - Israel is looking for outside funding for the project.
"Outside" funding? Does that preclude the Israeli's yearly allowance in U.S. aid has been already exhausted?
In any case, there is more than a smidgeon of irony that the U.S. may essentially be buying submarines for Israel from Germany...

Germany loves any kind of money. Israel will likely borrow it from US. Without interest of course.
