Not really sure about this, but if they are outside normal shipping lanes, would not a few nukes kill off any WMD that might get loosed into the atmosphere or water supply?

My question is - do we really know what such an accident would do - or are we just guessing.

If we did nuke them - would the nuke kill all the poison, or would the combination of the two practically kill the whole ocean, or contaminate the water and the air for thousands of miles.

I really don't think we have the answers to those questions.

And ... until we do, I would be very careful about attacking a ship I suspected contained extremely volitile components.
