How does this apply to two different computers in two different countries, happening at the exact same time?
No one has answered that yet..

How does this apply to two different computers in two different countries, happening at the exact same time? Maybe you both were trying to access pages on the same internet backbone, which was recently taken 'down' when nesting armadillos chewed through some network cables???

(We've got, you know, armadillos in our trousers. I mean, it's really quite frightening.)

I haven't read every single post on this thread, but I can assure you that "every single picture" did not disappear from the web at the same time. That is simply impossible.
A lot of advertizing images are hosted by a few servers. If these failed, a lot of sites would appear not to have images. The same might be true of some countries or some news services.
