Jacques Chirac promptly threw a temper tantrum, threatening to blackball nations that back President Bush. LOL! Talk about an empty threat! France is completely irrelevant, and they're totally oblivious to that fact.

Many analysts say France's opposition to Bush reflects a broader goal of turning the EU into a counterweight to America, rather than a partner. Translation: An enemy.
But that plan has no chance of succeeding. Only Belgium and Germany have signed on to France's delusion.

Chirac all but threatened to blackball Bulgaria - a U.N. Security Council member - and Romania from joining the EU...ok then, number 51 and 52.

"Chirac all but threatened to blackball Bulgaria... and Romania from joining the EU."I wonder how many European nations would be interested in forming a close economic alliance with America? One that left their national sovereignty intact and respected, along with their laws and customs.
To: kattracks
As usual Chirac's little tirade and (not even veiled) threats are not being reported in the German papers. I can imagine how the French papers are covering it.

France and Germany are under no illusions as to the danger posed by Hussein. Their motives are strictly self-serving and anti-U.S. France's motives are especially reflexively anti-American. They are simply trying to stall for time to save their own reputations after years or decades of financial and arms dealings with Saddam which will be exposed after he is deposed.

France had better tone down the rhetoric. They're going to appear even more idiotic if Latvia has to kick their ass.

By so badly overplaying his hand with EU members, Chirac may have unwittingly helped Tony Blair. More and more, Chirac is acting like a man who has something very nasty to hide. I wonder what exactly it is that the French have been selling the Iraqis despite UN sanctions?
