300 supporters may not appear to be much of a public display when compared with the (ever changing numerical estimates) reports of "qazillions marching against the war."
Two points:
(1) Just 1,000 determined Spartans, standing at the pass of Thermopoly (pardon my spelling), were sufficient to stop the Persians and to save what was to be later recognized as the roots of western democracym and civilization; and
