Hackworth made a name for himself by claiming falsely Admiral Boorda did not earn the "V" device on his Vietnam Service ribbon. Boorda seved on a warship in the unfiendly waters off the coast of Vietnam during war time while conducting combat operations. Boorda earned the right to wear the "V' device and the Chief of Naval Operations at the time of Boorda's Vietnam service confirmed the fact. Yet this weasel Hackworth never retracted the lie and the lie was used as reason for Boorda's suicide.

For what it's worth,it's been reported that medical personnel that examined Boorda's body after his death found two bullet holes in his chest.
