The problem is that Hack isn't a soldier anymore, he is someone who considers himself a "celebrity" and as such, needs the limelight.
He is becoming "one-trick pony", only good for criticizing the Petagon and the Army. His world is in the past and he doesn't realize it.

Especially after he verbally carved up Barbara Streisand, just before the 2002 elections.
