We have a vibrant two-party system who are mostly whores. They'll pretty much accept whatever ideology will put them in power. If the Dems created the nightmare scenario you envision, the numbers of people needed to fight against the government would be about the same to peacefully boot them all out office and have the GOP or some other party replace them.

Barbara Boxer doesn't change any of her votes based on the knowledge that some people have guns.

We will have to agree to disagree. Certainly Babs Boxer is far too stupid to understand, but that is not true of most of the whores that matter. They know there are limits to what they can do and some of the limits are set by the fact that they can be killed.

And about your comment in another post. The government does have science fiction weapons, but they are not magic. Targets, and apropriate ones, must be located. How is a GPS guided cluster bomb or even a camera that can see through walls going to do any good against even 5% of the population who choose to resist. Dropping munitions into a city neighborhood to kill a few rebels would recruit more rebels. Impose a police state, ubiquitous law enforcement, and you pxss off still more citizens. Sure it can be done for a while, look at Russia and China but the cost is high...look at Russia and China.
