an 18&1/2 in barrel has a 6 in spread at 15 feet. kicks like a freakin' mule though, quite a strain on a wrist with a pistol grip too.

Re your comments on the pistol grip and the kick like a mule. The kick will not be all that noticeable when the adrenilinew is pumping full bore and you are relying on your shotgun for your life. However, personally I find the full syntetic stock is acceptable for hip shots and far superior for well sighted shots. Personal preference.
Due to the differences in patterning due to different chokes etc. I did not include any specific distances and spreads.

quite a strain on a wrist with a pistol gripThat's the first thing I experienced after buying my 870 12-ga (I got it cheap because the barrel was slightly bent at 18-1/2"; naturally I cut it to 18")
I installed the pistol grip so it would fit under the jumpseat in my extd-cab truck. That first shot really stung my palm although I knew it was going to happen.
I think I'll try a folding stock next.
