The probabilities that an organic sealed jar of peanut butter would produce life forms are astronomically (beyond absurdity) greater than life happening by chance. The food industry only needs to make sure that life doesn't spontaneously form in the peanut butter jar before the expiration date.
If they set the expiration date to 04/01/1000003, then they just might run the risk of new life forming inside the jar while they claim it's still good to eat.
The food industry worries about the 2nd Law of thermodynamics destroying the peanut butter, not life.
