Bush (and, by extension, Frist) has been in command of this whole thing since 9/11. Every thing Bush wanted, he has gotten. He did so not by "in your face" thumping the Democrats but by appearing to be a "nice guy" who just wanted to do what is best for America. As a result, he has slapped them silly, and this is no different.

As the result we have seen Bush foward at this time I can not disagree with you, but this has to do with Frist, not Bush!

When the LEADER of the senate says something, don't you think he should back that up with action instead of whimping out like a turd?

Of course, unless if he followed through on what he said would have been a disaster. In this case I believe him following through on his threat would have lessened the chances of Estrada's election as well as a large potential for disaster.

First, if the rats let a vote happen during the week and if some R's could not be present for it the whole thing would be lost. Second, if they spent the next full week forcing a debate on Estrada, the Rats would make the case that the R's are holding up business while the country is poised to go to war and face its homeland threats. It would have been a political disaster. Third, taking the posistion that the R's are patient and willing to give the Rats all the time they need in order to get ready to vote will play much better at home.

So, I fault Frist for making the threat to begin with but I give him high fives for making a mid course correction necessary to stay focused on the goal.

The leader of the Senate is Bush's handpicked guy, and don't think for a minute that every detail of strategy on this, and other issues, was not discussed in advance.

Your, and others', willingness to bash the GOP in the Senate before you know what is happening is regrettable.

I'm not saying you personally, but it was this attitude I heard throughout the election crisis of 2000 ("Why isn't Bush doing 'x'?" "Why doesn't he come out and just claim he is the elected president?"); I heard it again throughout the first weeks after 9/11 ("When are we going to strike? Why don't we just bomb now?"); and I heard it in the 2002 Senate campaign ("Bush's team picked too many 'moderates' who can't get elected.") Every step of the way, Bush has been ahead of these people. At some point, you'd think you would say, "Gee, maybe these guys have a strategy, and since I'M NOT IN ON THE MEETINGS, MAYBE THEY KNOW SOMETHING I DON'T."
