Students bring cupcakes with marijuana to school

Two Northwest High School students brought German chocolate cupcakes laced with marijuana to a sociology class's cultural day this week, officials said.
The students, whose names and ages are not being released, mentioned to some of their 20 classmates that the cupcakes contained drugs. Several students alerted the teacher after the class Monday.
Northwest district officials said they are not sure how many students ate the cupcakes, but no one reported symptoms.
Administrators at the high school -- along with the Fort Worth police officer stationed at the campus -- immediately launched an investigation. Students were interviewed, officials said, and a cupcake was tested and an undisclosed amount of marijuana was found.
School administrators then called every parent of a student in the class to let them know what had happened. Most of the parents appreciated being notified, said Jim Chadwell, Northwest High School principal.
"We were very responsive," he said. "We took it seriously. I dropped everything. My goal for that day was to find out, No. 1, if all of our students were OK and, No. 2, who was responsible for it."
Chadwell said that, by law. he cannot say how the two students were punished.
But according to a section in the Northwest district's policy, "Students who violate this [drug] policy shall be subject to disciplinary action and may be required to complete an appropriate rehabilitation program."
Chadwell said he is disheartened that students sabotaged the class event, which typically features diverse foods, including European, Jewish and Greek dishes.
"It bothers me," he said. "I think it's unfortunate that we had students take advantage of this."
A staff meeting will be held next week to remind teachers to investigate any rumors that might be circulating among students. In this case, that type of prompt attention helped the school handle the situation quickly, Chadwell said.
But he added that he will not ban activities such as cultural day.
"I do not want to overreact to this situation," Chadwell said. "We had two students make a mistake."
Assistant Superintendent Corky Criswell said he is proud how the school handled the situation.
"The immediacy and the promptness of notification of parents was an outstanding effort by the high school staff," he said.

no one reported symptoms. If there had been any significant amount of marihuana in those cakes there would have been 'symptoms'. Symptoms that any teacher would have noticed, let alone the school nurse.
Uncontrollable laughter at trivial cause.
OH WOW! for no reason.
And so on.
I think this is just one little girl's spite.
However, if the tests come back positive, I will re-evaluate this post.
