Maybe Putin encourages France to stab us in the back, and then quietly shifts back to our side of the question, just in time to save his oil concessions. France is shafted.

On issues such as membership in the World Trade Organization, foreign investment, debt relief and help in fighting terrorists at home, it is Washington's voice, not Europe's, that counts for Putin.
