Why shopping malls and not the subway?

There's a whole lot more shopping malls and people that use them compared to the number of subways and subway riders. Underground transit systems are limited to a handful of cities but just about every large town has a mall.

The thing that really ticks me off is that even if there is s small fraction of islam that is not terrorist, I have yet to hear any of their religious leaders, either nationally or locally condemn what is going on. May their satanic god have mercy on them if they hurt my children.

Ohhhhhhh, I get it! The word quietly goes out to the politicos and elites to send THEIR families back to their home states, but they don't want to get the word out to the rest of the peasants until it may be too late for them. In other words, the people in "our club of those who run your country" get advance notice to save your family members, because they matter because they are YOURS. But we'll wait a bit to formally declare a red. It doesn't matter if the rest of the public (told to use duct tape and plastic sheeting and without goverment provided bunkers) perishes and their family members don't count as much -- because their family members were not elected.
I get it. Make sure those in power get advance formal notice to save themselves and their families and THEN tell the public (doesn't matter if as many of those perish because they are not smart enough to be in our ruling club).

I just saw a AP article that the move to Code Orange was partially based on some intel that proved to be a fabrication - but now they're considering RED?

It was partly based on testimony from an Al-Qaeda detainee who failed a lie detector test. The problem is, such tests cannot say, "His answer to this question is a lie."

Lie detector tests can only detect patterns of dishonesty, meaning some of the detainee's statements may be true, while others may not be.

Right you are. I live near DC and have friends who work for FEMA and a cousin who works, um, someplace else I won't mention. They say that we don't hear about a tenth of what goes on. In particular we don't hear about all the terrorist activities that get thwarted. We only hear about the intel failures.

And that, the anti-terrorist guys say, is how they like it. If you heard about their successes in the media, their informants would be compromised. If you do hear about their failures, or purported failures, the bad guys do to, and then underestimate our abilities and resources. It's to their advantage to be thought stupid and incompetent.

Which is not to say, of course, that some aspects of the FBI are not stupid and incompetent. I'm not disputing that.

It was my understanding there were several items (more than 3) which caused the orange alert - if one of them was proven to be wrong - that doesn't eliminate the rest of the items.

And ... since we do not know all the details of the items, the ones left could actually hold more weight that the one which was proven to be wrong.

Recently, in AZ they found a small notebook in a backpack by the border to Mexico. It was written in Arabic. I wonder if that information gave authorities some information about planned actions which can be causing the possible RED alert.

Sending them is one thing, sending them because of inside information or fear, not shared with the public is a bit much.

You're presuming they're hiding information that they could share. I'm certain they have intel that we don't, and that's the way it should be if release of the intel compromises sources. But there's enough information circulating in public for me to be concerned enough to send my family away from Washington D.C. if I lived in downtown.

(As it is, we're less than a half hour away and still concerned, but we're not going anywhere.)
