They are protesting against the American-sponsored eradication of coca, which indigenous people use as part of their culture and to fight altitude sickness.

Er,.....uh.....yea! works good for that!LOL!

This is just another failure of a distorted view of democracy. SNORT!!!!

The Bolivian's apparently do not know what the hell the taxes are spent on and they don't like it. Who would have thought?

How odd...Bolivia in turmoil.

Anybody who lives in La Paz is slowly going crazy anyhow from soroche in my view.....it is almost impossible to get used to unless genetically conditioned.

Because coca is the basis of cocaine Washington has pressured the Bolivian government to destroy all coca crops except registered fields which supply legal demand.
Hmmmm...if it can be done for the coca plant...

When Bush is done with Saddam, he's got some major work to do with South America. It's going to hell in a handbasket.

Next Pres may be Socialist who supports coca farming.

That is a pretty safe bet.

Over the past 50 years, any time our government has been involved in the implementation of a new government, it always becomes a Communist Dictatoship.

The demonstration started when the centre-Right President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada announced a rise in taxes, expecting popular discontent but nothing the police could not handle.

Kennedy, Daschle, Pelosi, et al. should take note. High taxes BAD, cutting taxes GOOD!
