I am fully aware of the reasons. READ THE POSTS ON THIS THREAD. I didnt take long for the name calling to start.I was aware of some of the decisions Lott had to make. I am also aware of some of the decisions made by Dole. I dont go around calling people names ( queer, faggott, limp wristed, spinless, liberal, light in loaffers,) just to name a few because of some of the decisions that are made in the Senate. LEARN THE RULES

He can't filibuster...

Excuses, excuses.

There are some things that the Senate Majority Leader must be accommodationist on. Many around here didn't understand that when Lott was leader.

I like Frist, but I'm going to keep tweaking those who think he's the savior of the GOP in the Senate.

Thanks for the info, I hope Republicans will make the dems really carry out a round the clock fillibuster and somehow get the word out with President Bush's help from his bully pulpit!

While this is the first disappointing act by Frist; he has done a wonderful job so far,

I am trying to remember what he did that was wonderful.

What excuse? If you can't get 51 senators on the floor and those are the rules...

I really think it would be a mistake to appoint Estrada as a recess appointment.

You are correct, this must go on and on! The end result is what I said on another thread!

Estrada gets in and the rats will be known as the racist! Well I said more but the threads up to 600 posts and I will look for it.

Well I hadn't read it all as of my first post, now I see that we need 51 senators there. I still want them to make them do a 24 hour a day fillibuster and get tough and not pull a Lott.

I agree. There's nothing to gain by forcing the matter now. The President will be better able to apply pressure after the war. Meanwhile, the Republicans will use the issue to hammer on the RATS in Hispanic communities. Sen. Hatch just blasted them over and over about double-standards for Estrada.

Are you saying they can't get 51 Senators because they have gone home...... What happened to the quorum provisions and not being absent without permission? If the senate is in session then they are to be there or available by their rules.....

here it is

THIS IS THE OUT COME ON THIS MATTER

1. Estrada is going to be voted in

2. democrats are going to be forever known as the party that shut down the govt at a time of war

3. democrats are going to be known as racist over this matter...........

THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE......as long as the GOP does not cave and gets the message out every second it can,,,,,,,

ping me when Estrada is voted in, thanks!!!!!! :>)

If you can't get 51 senators on the floor and those are the rules...

You misunderstand the rules.

If there's no quorum, the Senate simply adjourns. But Frist should keep the pressure on. Make the Democrats come to the floor on Saturday morning, Sunday morning, and Monday morning until the quorum is not met.

Or not. I don't really care.

But Frist is not any more "courageous" on this issue than Lott would have been in his first big test.

CNN Crossfire host Robert Novak stated on "Inside Politics" that the underlying reason for this recess was that Congress wants to get out of Washington due to "wives pressure" and "fear of impending terrorist attack"

Makes some sense. I was just told by a friend in D.C. that it might be a good idea to keep away from heavily populated areas like shopping malls the next few days. Especially shopping malls.
