I always have duct tape and plastic sheeting on hand just because this region of the country has damaging thunderstorms. I don't want to lose the contents of my house just because part of the roof came off.

But most people don't think about having ANY emergency supplies around. FEMA has a couple of good lists on their web-site.

I have duct tape and tarps. I just don't plan on going nuts about it. (I also have a full pantry, firewood for the fireplace, a full propane tank in the outdoor grill, a propane-powered indoor heater for emergency use, cash to last me a week, firearms and ammo)
