Nah, I don't want any Americans in the fray, even "Americans" loosely defined to include Hollyweird. It's hard for even me to believe, but I always tell myself: "Democrats are just Republicans that haven't grown up yet." Hee hee.

On a *completely* different subject -- I know you were just joking about Hollyweird -- I'm reminded of this lovely office colloquy. I know a staunch Republican at my office who said after 9/11 that it "served the New Yorkers right for voting for Sen. Clinton." He was just too angry about the Democrats. I thought that to be an unforgiveably traitorous thing to say: I avoid that guy like the plague now. I used to be a Democrat too, so I guess that's why I choose not to hate 'em. I promise in actuality I never do hate 'em at these Freeps. I might be horrified by them, LOL, but I don't ever want to end up like my office co-worker. He's in a very weird place, you know what I mean?

I know you're not suggesting otherwise: you're flawlessly cheerful and nice! I'm just tired and busy and thinking outloud and it does occur to me that there probably *are* a few people who call themselves conservative who wouldn't mind the result that you assuredly jest about. LOL, me for my part, I'm pretty sure there will be (former!) Democrats in Heaven too.

Now, here's the test of my humanity: can I apply this logic to Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon and wish them the best. Hmmmmm. And there are those Americans going off to be human shields in Iraq. I have to bite my tongue and check my thought to make sure I don't wish them the worst. It's hard! Anyone else have this problem, LOL, or is it just me? (Help, I need sleep!)

You're right, it is difficult to wish them well. However, I wouldn't be so hard on your Republican office colleague. I think everyone has a right to express their frustration and it's better than hitting people. Besides, IMHO, taking a statement of frustration as literal when it was meant differently makes for a lot of miscommunication. Like when remarking I'd like to use the "wide duct tape" to quiet certain students. It's only partly true ;)
