As an additional info related to Miguel estrada debate, Alberto Gonzalez this afternoon has sent the White House response too recent demands from Dasshole and Leahy. You can read the whole letter here (thanks to Howard Bashmans blog):

Main message of this answer is such that there are no historical precedents for releasing internal SG office memos, that Dems are misleading public opinion in claiming that there were such precedents and that Estradas memos are not going to be released.

Since I left a piece of my mind in Nelson's office, another piece in Graham's office, a third piece in the republican cloakroom and the rest in the democratic cloakroom, I guess I am now mindless. AAAARRRRRGGGGGThank you for your sacrifice! Lol! I called the Fla. duo - both uncommitted. Asked them whether after 18 months they'd finally take a stand by later today.(^:

" However, my question is this: If Estrada was an assistant SG during the Clinton Administration, how is it that the Clintons don't know what he was about? Were they not paying attention? Apparently so!"
Excellent question.
My first thought is that they do know, but want to use this as an excuse for denying Estrada a vote.
My second thought is that they do know, but in bringing it out, they are afraid it would show the true brillance of the man, and work against them.
My third choice is that the right of privacy prevailed in the clinton Adm. and they do not know. NAH!!!

Well.....except for Byrd's. HIS you could tell the difference. How many graduated in 1934 and married the purty girl he gave chewin' gum and candy to? Please to note, he was a good democrate even then. He admitted he got the chewin' gum and candy off of another kid and gave it to someone else.

The Dem's know they can't get that information from the get go, but they will ask for it, get declined, continue to ask for it and continue to get declined. Then, the Dem's will be able to blame the Administration for obstructing the vote for Estrada. Then the Republicans will have to give analogous reasons why they say no and why the Democrats' request is wrong. For instance:
The Democrats are asking for the equivalent of the results of OJ's polygraph that his lawyers had him take. OJ took a polygraph test, but his lawyers never released the results -- it was internal work product between a lawyer and his client. Marcia Clark asked to see the results, but Johnnie Cochran said no, it was protected by lawyer/client privelege. Clark could keep asking and asking, even go to the press and complain that OJ wasn't releasing his polygraph test. Was OJ obstructing the trial?
The Democrats are asking for the equivalent of OJ's polygraph tests.

This is good. The White House is doing what's right, regardless of the dems. No matter what they say, how they howl and rant, the White House position is the same.
Pretty soon some of these Rats will be frothing at the mouth, while the White House simply looks calm and normal. HA!

She can start with peter jennings.
The Republicans should continue to bring them back to the Estrada issue. They can't be allowed to go into other business.
