I'm 38 and the "Tiger" version still sounds weird because I had grown-up on the offensive version. I don't even recite the thing because when I think of it in my mind, I use "nigger" instead of tiger. So make no mistake, it's certainly offensive.

"Nigger" is the only way my father refers to black people...That's just how it was when he was a kid. And because he's a bigot, it's the way it is NOW, to him. I don't use it, and any kids I'm around don't use it, but it will take at least one more generation before it's not something that seems "Normal" to many people. At least in my part of the country (Red Neck Center of the Universe...Indiana).

That being said, this law-suite is a joke and an abuse of our court system. But, Southwest should be smarter than this...They should see something like this coming.

I've never heard that before, I grew up in Philadelphia and whenever I heard that rhyme it went "catch a doggy" by his toe. Not everyone is a hood wearing nightrider (ala Byrd), sometimes things are what they are.

And on your Dad's feelings, so what? I cannot imagine that saying a word can harm someone, so who cares what he says. If you don't like his talk ask him to curb it around the kids.

If your father really dislikes black people, this kind of pandering only strengthens his opinion.

I'm 39, and I must have been born on the cusp of racial political correctness, because I never heard the N- version, but we said "catch a Colored" when I was a kid. I always mis-understood it as "Collar", which didn't make a lot of sense. But since when does anything have to make sense when you are a kid?

Later on it was changed to "Tiger", which kids are still learning in elementary school today, as far as I can tell.

In the law theres something called the reasonable person standard used to find out how a reasonable person would act in a certain situtation. I think that a similar standard should be held to plaintiffs. If your suit is simply insane, it gets thrown out. Period.
Also in the law is something called forseeability used to determine proximate cause in tort claims. The long and short of it is that if you reasonably cannot foresee something, you are not necessarily going to be held liable, otherwise you could have a domino effect forever. In this case, i wouldnt expect a 22 yr old flight attendend to reasonably expect this type of reaction from what she said. I think we should just ban all public speaking and public actions as to avoid any chance of potentially offending someone.

Are you kidding? Southwest should have seen something like this coming? Because your father happens to be a racist?

Yes, racists exist. And, as much as this may come as a shock, they will exist even after the race-hustling poverty pimps wring dry every business in sight.

Southwest was not in the wrong here. It is the infernal court that even stooped to hear this case that should bear our opprobrium.

Sad to hear that your dad is a racist bigot and never had the courage to change. I think you are in the minority of folks who associate the ryhme with racism.

Most of us on this thread have never heard the racist version.
