New Billboard Shows Support For U.S. TroopsAs you drive down I-65 on any given day, you probably see dozens of billboards. But while you're driving, do you really see them? Ted Jackson is the partner of a local governmental affairs firm. He certainly took notice of one billboard on Frankfort Avenue last week on his way into work... and it got him thinking. "I began to wonder why isn't the other view being expressed...that we stand for President Bush, that we support our troops," said Jackson. The "Peace is Patriotic" billboards, like the one on Frankfort Avenue, were erected by a national campaign entitled "Peaceroots." They can be found in several cities across the country. But as our troops continue to be deployed overseas, Jackson felt the need to show the brave men and women that there are Americans who are behind them...one hundred percent. "I finally decided that I was going to do something about it. Take the initiative that there is another view, and pull some people together to express that in this community," said Jackson.
In less than a day, Jackson raised sixty-five hundred dollars to pay for this billboard that sends a simple message: "We support our troops, and the President." Jackson wants people to know this effort isn't about partisanship. "This is not a Republican effort, this is a citizens effort," said Jackson. He hopes word will spread about the billboard so they can put more up around Louisville. And that it catches on nationwide, just as the "Peaceroots" campaign did...via the Internet.
