I confess to being surprised at how ineffective the minority gambit proved to be in the case of Estrada.

Everyone speculated how perilous and difficult it would be for RATS to smear a Hispanic. If there's any evidence that they've held back on Estrada, I sure can't see it. And this was without any paper trail or judicial record to demagogue. Had they found something to sink their teeth into, can you imagine how ugly it would have gotten?

As to any unwillingness to do such a thing to a black female, two words: Denise Majette!

I'm sadly of the opinion that RATs believe they've got such a hammer lock on the non-white vote that they can abuse them with impugnity so long as they use the canard that he's not actually "one of them." And they may be right!

I heartily disagree. Orrin Hatch's furious rampage against Schumer, Leahy and their chief Estrda-bashing source, Richard Bender, were absolutely devastating. We on FR who watched and commented were stunned to see Hatch unleash as he did, and the Dems were broken by it. There will be no fillibuster.

You will see the true impact when Schumer attempts to run for reelection, and runs square into furious Hispanics, who supported Pataki, and without whom he canot win.

If the Dems bork this candidate just like they tried to do with Estrada, it will reinforce the impression that the Demopukes are the party that forces minorities to the back of the bus.

Whereas the Republican Party is the party of Colin and Condi.

I don't know who Denise Majette is,but it's clear after what happened to Clarence Thomas that the left can make any claims or accussations they want, and the media will never call them on it.

Yes, and Denise was just a truly moderate Democrat, or campaigned as such (we'll see how she votes, that story isn't really written yet), running against the incumbent Democrat from the crazed-radical-Communist wing of the Dem Party, McKinney.

This woman is apparently a conservative, they'll really bring out the heavy artillery/smear campaign.
