I think it is infrared. Most common black and white video cameras pick up some in the infrared, and that would be a good thing when looking for re-entering and flying objects that would be warm. They would be highly visible due to temperature.
You may very well be right, but I think it's gross journalistic error not to mention that in any report.
I see a pelican on the wing edge, and shouldn't have to automatically assume that it's pixel bleed from an infrared heat source, and there's no need to believe my lyin' eyes.
