No surprise when you realize the book most liberals and teachers are scared of is an old one - The Bible.
When you have no absolute truth, Islam is just as good as any other 'story'. Not to actually read or understand it of course - just be nice and serve it to everyone all prettied up. /sarcasm

As my sons friend always tells his teacher.
I can not call islam a religion of peace, I'm not a muslim, they know there religion better then I do, if Bin Laden says he's a good muslim, and he's been following it his whole life, how am I supposed to say he's wrong, thats like a Hindu telling the pope he doesn't know anything about christianity".

Before September 11, 2001, most of the people of America and Europe respected Islam as "one of the world's great religions".

"When any dark side [of Islam] surfaces, textbooks run and hide," said the report, "Islam and the Textbooks," by Gilbert Sewall, a former professor who directs the council."
Its the politically correct thing to do. Muslims are third worlders and have more melanin than us, consequently, they must be treated with a special consideration by the liberal establishment.
If Vikings were around today, they wouldn't get similar treatment for their religion as they would fail the pigmentation test.

The study, released by the American Textbook Council, said a rosy treatment of Islam may arise from the lobbying of the Council on Islamic Education on national publishers. Textbook-making is like sausage-making. You don't want to see how it's done.
Homeschooling bump.
To: kattracks
"For more than a decade, history-textbook editors have done the Council's bidding, and as a result, history textbooks accommodate Islam on terms that Islamists demand," the report said. It's all over. If this is how we surrender with only 3 million muslims in America, imagine when it becomes 30 million. Better start translating the Constitution into Arabic (don't bother with the Bill of Rights). Sharia law is on the way, unless we stand up against cultural terorists such as CAIR and the CIE.

But people in the education establishment get real upset when you tell them that public schools are nothing but political re-education camps.
