Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose, known for leading the sniper investigation, voiced support in Annapolis Thursday for three new gun bills.
One would refine the definition of banned "assault weapons" to include specific military features. Supporters say it would close a loophole that allows gun manufacturers to skirt current laws.
"These weapons have no real use in our neighborhoods," Moose said. "The rapid-fire weapons do not improve the livability for the citizens of the state of Maryland."
Another bill would require owners to notify authorities if they lose a gun. Chief Moose said police waste valuable time tracking down the owner of the gun used in a crime, only to be told it was lost or stolen.
"Generally, we report all of our valuables when they are lost or stolen," Moose said. "So why not the same for guns."
The third bill would expand Maryland's ballistics fingerprinting system to include long rifles. Maryland currently only "fingerprints" handguns by recording a bullet fired from the gun into a state database.
Governor Ehrlich's press office released a statement after the event:
"Governor Ehrlich has directed State Police Superintendent Norris to review these three anti-crime bills for an assessment of their effectiveness. If he is convinced these initiatives can directly reduce violent crime in Maryland he will give them strong consideration."
The bills are scheduled for hearings later this month. Chief Moose may testify on their behalf.

Chief Moose of the sniper invesitgation showing his true liberal, statist colors backing these gun control proposals. At least there is some chance of these bills being vetoed by Governor Ehrlich.
Surprised Chief Moose isn't supporting a bill to ban those infamous white vans.

Chief Chuckie was the head cop here in Portland. No tears were shed when he left. He made a couple of tons of enemies with his PC attitude. He has a huge chip on his shoulder and is a % racist.

What Moose is attempting to do is the moral equivalent of a small-town southern mayor trying to pass an ordinance forcing blacks to sit in the back of the bus (as was once the case in many southern areas).
So where is the federal government on this?
If a small-town "Boss Hogg" had tried the latter, federal agents would be swarming in his town, and Bush himself would probably make a statement on it. Bottom line: the law wouldn't pass, Boss Hogg would be out of job, and likely in a federal prison (I believe it is a federal crime to conspire to deprive anyone of their Constitutional Rights
So why is the federal government silent here?
The reason is that the our federal officials, of both parties, do not believe in individual Rights nor the Bill of Rights. They simply don't recognize these Rights, just as England did not in the mid-to-late 1700s.
Instead, each complaint of violations of our Rights is weighed by political gurus. Those few issues that will bring good press and high poll numbers are addressed. Those that won't bring good press are simply ignored.

Always was...but he had a lot of admirers, even here, which still makes me want to puke.
"Maryland currently only "fingerprints" handguns by recording a bullet fired from the gun into a state database."
I think it's a very good idea to fire a round or two into a state database, don't you?

Chief Moose is a perfect example of the Peter Principal.
He is a singularly unimpressive example of a chief law enforcement officer. Why anyone seeks his opinion on anything is beyond me.

"The rapid-fire weapons do not improve the livability for the citizens of the state of Maryland." I can use a Browning BLR .223 (lever action) more effectively than most people can use an M16
Will he ban lever actions next?
After all, they were the assualt weapons of the Little Big Horn

Nothing this racist meathead surprises me.

"The rapid-fire weapons do not improve the livability for the citizens of the state of Maryland." Even though the murder weapon was an AR-15, only one shot at a time was taken. So even if the ban were not only 100% enforced but even 100% complied with, a much taller order, the same murders could have still been perpetrated with bolt or lever action rifles.
By the way, note the criterion for his support of this legislation: if it doesn't improve livability, it can be banned.

Don't waste the stamp on him. Send me one and I'll give it to Joe Curran, he's the one who brokered this bs.
This will be Ehrilich's first test on guns and every single gun owner is watching. Especially in light of the tip line shenanigans.

He even had some admirers on FR. That's gotta make you wonder.

He has a freakin' Ph.D.! What do those come in Cracker jack boxes now?
Actually, if you compared the devalued credentials of Chief Moose, and those of most inner-city high school principals, you can see that law enforcement is heading down the same unionized toilet as public education.

Moose can pack it. The snipers could have cause the same panic with a .22 single shot.
Moose is just another enemy of the 2nd Amendment.

There are dozens of the 'states rights' crowd here that will admit, when pressed, -- that they believe states can violate the RKBA's. -- Or for that matter any of our BOR's, - as supposedly they only apply to the federal government.
Curious view for 'conservatives'.
