I understand the reasoning, it was a joke. The F-4 was always called the "flying brick" by us mechanics, it wasn't with out saying "goes to prove if you strap powerful enough engines (j-79s) to a brick, it will fly"

The F-4 was always called the "flying brick" by us mechanics, it wasn't with out saying "goes to prove if you strap powerful enough engines (j-79s) to a brick, it will fly" And before that the "Lead Sled", the F-105, demonstrated the same thing with a single J-75 26,500 lbs of thrust verses 17,000 for a single J-79 (in each case depending on the engine/aircraft varient)
