Feb. 6 A snapshot of Americas mood shows increases in President Bushs approval ratings and in the percentage of Americans ready to support military action against Iraq, according to an NBC Poll released Thursday and taken soon after Secretary of State Colin Powell laid out the U.S. case before the United Nations.
TIM RUSSERT, NBCs Washington bureau chief, said the bumps were largely due to the presidents State of the Union speech last month and to Powells presentation on Wednesday, which many observers felt offered strong evidence for action against Iraq. Below is a summary of the survey of 514 adults: Bush ratings: 61 percent approved, 31 percent disapproved. Last month, the ratio was 54 to 40. Bushs high was 81 percent in November 2001. Military action against Iraq: 60 percent felt it should happen, 27 were against it. That compares with 56 and 36 percent in January. The 27 percent mark was the smallest percentage since the question was asked in polls dating back to April 2002.

Although I am glad to see Bush's approval rating rising, I'm a little bit peeved at people who can be so fickle on a day-to-day or week-to-week basis.

If those bunkers CP showed us yesterday are real, and I don't doubt they are, if we bomb them we can't approach till cleared ,dust settles, whatever...If we move on the ground they shoot them at us, we wait again...in either case maltiply this by 100? 200? and we have a true dessert (120 degreees) war. I don't like it.

We probably need to consider declaring war on the left wing maggots in America who hate America/Americans and lust after their cash cow Uncle Soddomite.

I understand your concern. I think that everybody is concerned about that. But I pray and hope that our military leaders and plannners have tactics up their sleeves that will neutralize the WMD threat.
This is a far nastier situation than what we faced in '91 Gulf war. I know there was a different situation then and Bush the elder had his reasons, but I fumed and swore at Bush the elder to finish the situation and not stop short. While we had them on the run and Saddam heading out of the country, we stop short...unthinkable. And in my opinion, unforgivable.
How many more of our boys will die because we stopped then.

Were it not for the press his ratings would still be in the mid 70's.
Maybe I shouldn't say this the press is probably reading these forums for research.

Did anyone laugh when they read about Iraqi citizen's arming themselves? They'll surrender faster than the French, that's how effective that idea is.
Do the weapons have bullets in them?

No surprise. Bush should get another lift after the Feb. 14 report.

Bush ratings: 61 percent approved, 31 percent disapproved. This is as good as it gets folks. About one third of the country will be against whatever the current administration is doing NO MATTER WHAT. Whatever Bush decides to do in Iraq, he doesn't have to worry about the support of the American people. They are clearly behind him.

No evidence is enough. If Clinton were in office, the Kneepad Knights would favor war. This is all about hating George Bush because he won. They can't stand it. They want him to fail, even if it is bad for the country.

Polls don't matter. Bush is going to do what he thinks is right. clintoon would have changed direction based on polls, but Bush won't.
The only poll that will make any difference in our gov't is the one in Nov. '04.
