February 6, 2003 -- Officials yesterday banned the state's former top Muslim cleric from setting foot in a state prison ever again - after he said the 9/11 terrorists should be honored as martyrs.

The action, against Warith Deen Umar, 58, of upstate Glenmont, came just hours after he was quoted as not only praising the 9/11 killers, but also predicting there may be further attacks on America - led by black Muslim converts.

"Umar later converted to Islam and began practicing the harsh and intolerant form of the religion known as Wahhabism, fueled by at least four trips to Saudi Arabia at Saudi expense, the paper said."

Another contribution to world peace from our "friends" in Saudi Arabia.

"The word ‘martyr' is religious terminology, not political." "If a Muslim dies fighting toward freedom, it's not political,"

Maybe we DO need a "Crusade".

On the contrary, he should be welcomed into the prison--permanently.

This is the fifth column at work. Islam is inherently incompatible with a constitutional republic, yet these people use our freedoms against us. If we allow any chaplains into the prisons, we have to allow all of them in, even those proselytizing for the bloody moon god Allah, and advocating the overthrow of our government. Dar ul Islam, coming to a town near you, by way of the prison system, paid for by your taxes.

We're engineering our own demise.

That is complete BS!! What a lot of nerve and hatred towards the victims of 911!

Prison chaplins getting paid $70,000 a year. Sorry, I can't go for that. Should be volunteers. Not a legitimate use of my tax dollars, regardless of what faith they represent.
