France is, whether it is aware of it or not, putting a stake through the heart of the UN, and in the process reducing itself to a laughing stock.
There is nothing that the United States could ever do that could ever cut France quite so cleanly down to size.
It is time for a reconstituted United Nations wherein France has no veto, as is appropriate to its stature.

It is time for a reconstituted United Nations wherein France has no veto, as is appropriate to its stature. The UN was formed before my birth. Can someone tell me why France was ever granted veto authority in the first place? I'm guessing it had to be granted out of pity, but didn't most of France aid and abet the Nazis during WWII?

It was already infinitesimal. If it reduces itself any further, I daresay it is in danger of disappearing completely.
