Rumsfeld calls situation in North Korea very dangerous

Capitol Hill-AP -- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is calling the situation in North Korea very dangerous -- particularly since the North says it has reactivated its nuclear facilities. The State Department says if the announcement is true, it would be a "very serious development."
Rumsfeld insists the situation still can be resolved peacefully. He says the U-S should continue what's being done now in working with the South Korean government.
He says any movement of U-S forces to the Korean peninsula isn't being done in a threatening way.
Instead, Rumsfeld says it's to demonstrate to the world that the U-S is capable of fighting in more than one region.
He warns no nation should view the U-S focus on Iraq as an "opportune time" to launch another attack.

I don't quite get North Korea's "in your face" attitude. They're not even trying to be stealthy in their actions. 100% pure blackmail, or just insanity on the part of Kim Il Jong? Maybe they're jealous of all the UN attention being lavished on Iraq. I dunno.

Same puzzlement here. What is their motivation and why are they being so blatant? They seem to be going out of their collective way to advertise their actions- (as opposed to Saddam who maintains his innocence)...
To: shezza
Perhaps they realize their major market for arms, Iraq, is soon to be obliterated.
Since they will be running out of funds soon, they think they need to hurry along.

This is my take on the North Korea situation. The States may not go it alone on this But with the help of NATO could possibly mount a strike within weeks or even hours. NATO troops are all stationed in Northern Europe and and the Baltics . This could happen very quickly. To strike NK it has to be done lightning fast which by the AMericans technology could be done and NK's ability to retaliate would be a no go. But this is black mail and Propaganda on Nk's part to become a "BIG PLAYER" on the wolrd stage which they are not, but would want others to think so. GOD Bless.

I don't quite get North Korea's "in your face" attitude Maybe they know what we'll find out about their aiding Iraq and terrorists (give what Saddam's bodyguard said over the weekend after he escaped, about N. Korea helping Saddam).....and they think if we know they have nucs, we won't go after them, too.

It's simple, the moment North Korea acts reasonably they become just another two bit country of no concern to anyone. That's why they stage pointless DMZ incidents, try to build nukes, ect. It's a dangerous game that's worked for them for many years, but God help us all when their luck runs out. It'll probally be ugly for all involved.

An inopportune time, indeed, to wave a limited nuclear threat in Uncle Sam's face.
I wouldn't like to guess what the half-life of an axis-of-evil regime is now.

President Bush's comments about the "AXIS OF EVIL" was dead on . This man knows what he's talking about. The connections are diabolical for those who desire to destroy AMerica & Canada the greatest Christian free countries on the globe. No wonder the evil forces of darkness want to snuff us out. This is a time of great darkness coming to the eart. Everyone who hasnt prayed to God better start praying and get close to Him. I encourage you all my American friends.

President Bush's comments about the "AXIS OF EVIL" was dead on. Pretty good for someone so "dumb." He's been dead on on everything so far, I'd say. And a dumb person couldn't have those odds going for him, ever, in 10 life times, much less in two short years.

maybe the regime is falling apart and needs an "enemy" ? Or maybe their leader is so paranoid and grandiose he really fashions himself to be able to do as he pleases? Or maybe China and NK have had some private discussions- i.e. all that lips and teeth business--and have decided this is a great time to reunite the Koreas and to return Taiwan to the "motherland".

You forgot Canada. No matter where our Prime Minister stands , He will answer the call when its time to go. Besides we have troops there already in Afganistan with the US. ANd covert operations which we cannot make publick. So You should add a Canaidian Flag to your 26 flags arlready posted.

I've tried to use the countrys' leader's PUBLIC STATEMENT of solidarity with the US as my criteria....until then, Canada, and other nations (like, France, actually) won't show up.

A State of Paranoia could be very real for these NK's.Its a state of the mind where they believe they are being atacked or are on the radar to be attacked. But this is very well put by BUsh. Calling NK an "AXIS of EVIL" This rang the warning Bell. THey know that when you bomb America Using Planes and Fund terror America's Millitery Might will come a smashing AT your Door. No wonder there fear as a nation as gotton to a state of Paranoia. Beisdes they do see a large number of America Troops that have amassed in the last 3 months very close to them.

I AM CANAIDIAN and I stand with the US and their Citizens
