Probably a good thing, since the Philippinos don't seem to have been able to deal with these people themselves, and as I understand it the Phillipine government put some very tight constraints on our mission there for fear of offending the Muslims.

You should understand that it is against the Philippine Constitution for foriegn ctroops to engage in combat in the Philippines. So this is a very big step for them. I think the Philippine Governemtn has done a great job dealing with the problem given their resources. We should support them with everything they will allow, they are just about the best friends we have in the region, and believe it or not, most of the people their love this country. I have been there several times over the past few years and it always amazes me how happy they are as a people given their problems. We should all write our elected leaders and encourage them to suport the Filipinos as much as we can.
