Really ...!
I was watching that report - and what Shep was saying was that the police must have done something magical in order to get the hostage out of the truck without FOX cameras seeing the action. I don't see what is so weird about that.
I sent Shep an e-mail during the stand-off and told him that the Robot had a camera and an audio feed on the tip of it and that was why the police were using it to deliver the cell phone - so the police could get a good look inside the truck and verify that the hostage was still alive.
However, I also told Shep that he better not reveal that on the air because if the guy was talking to his family and they were watching FOX, they might alert the guy and freak him out.
Shep replied: "i knew i didn't for that reason"

Those of us listening, without the benefit of e-mail communication with Shep, simply heard the "some kind of magical pollicemen" statement. Later, when you have time, go back and check the live thread.
I like Shep, and I think he has a good heart. Once in a while though, he gets a bit excitable and an occasional goofy phrase comes out. He will, I am sure, improve.
And he is definitely an improvement over any of the other network anchors (Rather, Jennings, etc.) and it WAS a funny statement!

Sounds as though Shep used the "magical explanation" as a sort of tongue-in-cheek cover for the fact that he actually knew feed was coming from the robot camara

Oh, c'mon, I'm not saying Shep is a menace to the airwaves, I just think he says some silly stuff now and then (he's very much a Fox Labs product :p). It's fun to watch. ;-) I know the programming idea is to use him for "zing" for that coveted age demographic, but...he's a very silly man. ;-)
