Our government is bad but our people is not!

If the people aren't bad then why didn't they overturn the Nazi party when they rose to power? It's not like the Nazi's were a majority.

For the same reason that bubba got 2 terms here. It's going to take a while, but one day America is going to wake up and realize that what we've been experiencing since September 11, 2001 is all part of bubba's legacy. What's going on between us and Iraq didn't start when W took office.

Terriergal, not to butt in, but how did we allow the left to take over our schools and newsmedia? How do we get them back? While most decent Americans were minding their own business, the left was scheming.

Vigilance.

I now understand the German people who did not stand until Hitler had taken over the press, killed the opposition, used some Madison Avenue-worthy propaganda efforts, and in a few short years was coralling his enemies into cattle cars - with a clear conscience (he went after the women - they made up the majority of voters in Germany, too - and other special interest groups on his way to infamy).

The hatred peddled by Terry McAuliffe and his left-wing DNC pals is very similar to Hitler's hatred towards the Jews in the years before the Holocaust - and just as dishonest and potentially deadly. The left doesn't seem to care what hatred they foster with their lies.

Joseph Goebbels own words, Nazi propaganda archives.

Terriergal, I have to say I think this reason is a little over the top.

We weren't able to get rid of Clinton, even though many people thought he was horrible. And Clinton wasn't killing people in camps.

Michael is a freeper in good standing, as best I can tell, and his input as a German is appreciated and respected. Of course hard questions can be asked, but I do think it's not honest analysis to extrapolate wildly from the German people's response to Hitler. Many people in the world were unconvinced Hitler was a thug or a threat.

I think the German people today are affected by their Nazi history in that it has deeply ingrained in them a deep strain of knee-jerk pacifism and also a sense by which America's power today is (subconsciously at least) a reminder of a not-very-honorable time in their history.
