Ok- While we are waiting, I am about to expose a gaping hole in my knowledge- (Shield your eyes if you are bashful)-After doing some research on Adlai Stevenson, it has become obvious to me that he was eloquent, if not somewhat long-winded. What exact "moment" is everyone referring to. I looked through several online biographies and such, but must have missed it.
Thanks

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Adlai Stevenson, our ambassador, spoke to the Security Council. He was armed with photos of the missile installations taken from U-2 planes. The Soviet Ambassador had been denying such installations existed. Stevenson asked him for an answer to the photos, and the Soviet was silent. Stevenson said "Mr. Ambassador, I am prepared to wait here until hell freezes over for a response."
THAT is the Adlai Stevenson moment.

We are watching with you all. One of those great homeschool days - we are watching, then discussing, then writing a short paper on this speech!
(we will be praying, too!!)

Someone gave a great answer to your question, but I recommend that you go out and rent 'Thirteen Days' which is the story of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and how the Kennedy's handled it. EXCELLENT movie in my opinion, and I am a pretty big movie fan...JFK
