Tomorrow, February 5, 2003, Secretary of State Colin Powell will present the United Nations Security Council with evidence of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction programs and efforts to hide those programs from U.N. inspectors. Faced with an obvious impending plethora of evidence showing the threat posed by Saddam Hussein in the form of ballistic missiles, chemical agents and biological weaponry, foes of toppling Saddam have changed tactics. They now focus on what they claim is a lack of evidence linking Iraq to al Qaeda.

I'm not sure I understand your post. The Soviet Union and the Russians before and after, have always had the will to defend themselves. On their own terrain and in the defensive, they were among the best in the world. However they were able to be contained because they valued the security and survival of their Rodina more than their communist ideals of bringing the whole world, or at least Europne, into the communist sphere. The Jihadies and Pan Arabists seem to have less compunction about risking it all, although they may just believe that they aren't really doing that. They may learn differently very shortly.

Hardly.Iraq is a terrorist state. It sponsors and harbours terrorists. It is a grave threat to the safety of our world. To equate Mexico and Iraq is irrational and such an analogy is for dimwits. There is a thing called the Axis of Evil and when Iraq gets wrapped up, Korea could be next, though, I think Iran is more likely.Free those two nations, and maybe, just maybe, most of the state sponsored terrorist threats to mankind go POOF!Lesser, nasty ratholes, like Syria, Libya and the Saudis then begin to clean up their acts or go the way of Saddam.
Just where is the slippery slope, unless you think doing this is illegitimate and US motives are tainted?

...the idea that "evidence" to make such a case is needed beyond what you know already about Iraq and its links to terror groups,is but a sop to a mindset of appeasement and wishful thinking that once made fighting the Soviet threat a difficult proposition. Here here!

Not conclusion base on conjecture but clear and convincing, irrefutable evidence before we start killing folks.Too late, Gomer. While you sit puffing and croaking like a Texas toad with 20/1000 vision, determined sharp-eyed men with spines are going to take out the Saddam trash.
