NASA has asked that tests involving freon free foam be witheld. What are they hiding?
Article shows a NASA engineer noting the difficulties in creating the same characteristics.

These people are acting as if they're desperate about shutting all discussion down. I wish I knew what they are so anxious we should not find out.

=) Boy freepers have strong opinions. I hope that we end up building the X43 space plane or something better as result of all this.
I also dont want people to think that we are being anti-space. We just want to weed out the few apples and make progress.
Finally, I think that Bush has done an awesome job so far.

I have to finish writing my Tribute to the Risk Takers
that I had started on Saturday afternoon before this took such a turn. Now I can write the full story.

We have found it already and NASA needs a swift kick in the behind. The President was fantastic through out this whole thing.
NASA on the other hand, well time will tell if they haved learned anything from the deaths of these 7 risk takers!

Easy for you to say when you are sitting behind some keyboard and have the ability to hide behind a screen name in relative anonymity.
Get over yourself - you're not omniscient, you're not the end-all and be-all of this forum, much less when it comes to dealing with an aerospace accident - which is what this appears to be.
It MIGHT have been the ice/foam that hit the left wing. But it MIGHT have been something else. All we KNOW FOR CERTAIN is that the shuttle broke up - most of the rest of this is guesswork.
There are people who will be askign questions, TLBSHOW, people who know a HELL of a lot more about this stuff than you. It's not nauseating to ask what happened, but it IS nauseating when people toss about accusations with NO EVIDENCE other than someone's speculative memo.

This really has nothing to do with President Bush.
It has everything to do with seven very brave people who may be dead because of a needless choice to remove freon from an insulation foam, based on a PC call by no one knows who yet.

"More foam Stuff (NASA witholding test results!)"Your heading is bogus! Actually, this is what the article (Fooman linked to) says.
"In 1999, the Southwest Research Institute, a non-profit laboratory in San Antonio, Texas, fired insulating foam fragments from a compressed-gas gun into thermal tiles and recorded the results with digital cameras. After the Columbia crash, NASA asked the institute not to release those results. The space agency also has tested the foam in wind tunnels and aboard a research jet."

Sorry my friend but I have to point out to you JUST ABOUT every story thread started here is done by cut and paste! When I said what happened to the Space crew and shuttle last Saturday here I did not use cut and paste, ask Fred.
Now I really need dinner, fasting for 4 days is enough.

one disgruntled ex-employee Greg Katnik, who wrote the original article in 1997 is not an ex-employee of NASA.
The other man quoted is a retired engineer for Lockheed who was speaking at a conference in N.O. last year, long before this happened. Please try and keep the facts straight.
People might start to question your motives should you not adhere to the facts. Thanks.

NASA has BIG incentives to cover up if it turns out that PC foam killed these seven astros.... WHY?
To: Jael
The people who have been trying to shut down discussion here must have some sort of agenda. I just wish I knew what it was. They obviously are desperate to prevent us from discovering something. I wish I knew what.
To: HairOfTheDog
WHY? Oh, liability, cuts to their budget, no promotions, maybe firings. Just for starters.
To: Jael; TLBSHOW; Fred Mertz
Well, gee, in the hands of some reporter who might have an agenda or who is a little sloppy, that report might have people jump to conclusions. Ask Richard Jewell how it felt like when CNN did such a thing. I understand CNN ended up paying through the nose for their handling of him...

The accident will have a cause. Why would the decision to use a new environmentally friendly foam be more "culpable" than any other reason? Who are they covering up things from in that case? Who is the demon here?
To: aristeides
Or maybe it's because there might be a desire to review stuff before it goes out.
Remember how CNN got in a little trouble over the Atlanta Olympic bombing? A guy named Richard Jewell was mistakenly described as the suspect. IIRC, CNN paid through the nose for that mistake.
