When our nation fought for independence, those supporting the endevour represented only 28% of the colonists. Those operating for freedoms in South Africa represented Marxist regimes and their need to expand a global presence. They had only a convenient connect to the freedom of African people.

If you considered the desire of black Africa to mount revolution against any governing power, it is more like 2% have any interest and those are military and those connected to gain wealth and power from conflict.

Do you really think that only 2% of the population in South Africa cared about basic civil liberties suchas being able to vote, move freely about the country, or start their own business?

What a great idea. Too bad the Amish have silly concepts about private property--too radical for Mandela & Co.
I read someplace that there were very few black Africans in South Africa when the Dutch and Brits first arrived. Most immigrated to benefit from the society and jobs the white farmers and businessmen created. Did I imagine this story ?

No....That figure would apply to the rest of the continent where Mandela's cohorts roam. South Africa is a very different situation. Many of the blacks there were educated elsewhere. The black townships cared little of freedoms other than the right to work. Black township thugs were so brutal on those who worked, my old boss used to let the workers sleep in the factory on the day following their wages being paid. When they would walk home on payday or take transport, the black community leaders would beat them and rob them using local youth. At one point, my old boss used the 10/1 rule to get escort home from the white supervisors. Most of what made life miserable in the townships was the attempts to deal with these thugs in the context of policing. The most coveted job in South Africa was as a domestic servant because you were protected. Sure there were those loonie morals laws enforced by crazy white nuts, but that was far less a threat to safety than living in the black townships.

As for owning a business, if blacks owned a business in South Africa, it was subject to the approval of the black mayors who skimmed protection moneys like Tony Soprano. Any business that was making blacks fall into good fortune and subsequently a threat to the Marxist effort, they would burn it down or blow it up.

Africa's problems have a small contribution of race to the stew, but it is more an issue of culture, politics, and ruthless power that rises with the sun each day in Africa. Those problems are too complex and unpleasant to deal with. Seeing them as racial issues plays out better in the west and fills the pockets of Mugabe and his friends much quicker. The people who have asked to be in charge there are ruthless predators. Guess who their prey is? It is definately not white.

No immagination.....Although I would never mix the Brits and Dutch in the same sentence. Those Boer Wars kind of caused a rift there for about the next few thousand years.

Those Dutch Africans' are a bit nuts. But look at what they created with their hard work! And yes their hard work!

If it wasn't for nuclear missiles, the cold war, minerals, and diamonds, it would be Afriwhere? Instead, we woke up the opportunists. The cold war is over, but those Marxists cannot face the reduction in pay.

Re. Mao, Stalin, Mandela et al:

There seems to be some sort of intellectual disconnect from reality that is much more likely to occur and/or be preserved with the most influential Socialist and Marxist leaders. Almost like an ideological autism.

I suspect that much Leftist 'scholarship' that is received by some African intelligentsia debilitates real democratic progress. Doctrinaire Leftist distrust of representative democracy and capitalism mixed with ideologically prescriptive social experimentation is no recipe for societal progress, IMO.
