Israel has offered citizenship to its Arab population and a significant number took her up on it. Im not sure Israel wants all of the West Bank and Gaza, so I cant imagine why theyd offer them citizenship. Clearly you consider the concept of Arab states assimilating an Arab population, the majority of which already resides there, preposterous.
If course the costs are manageable since you expect someone else to foot the bill.
I wouldnt mind if the US picked up some of the cost, were doing it now through UNWRA and aid to Israel, Jordan and the PA anyway.
Again, you want others to provide the homes and the money and Israel gets the prize. You really think that the Arab world or the Palestinians are going to do that? Out of their well-demonstrated sense altrueism?
No, I dont think the Palestinians or Arafat are going to do that, their objective, which I presume you support, is the destruction of Israel. The Arab world, no they may not be helpful either, they like the refugees in the hovels theyre in now. Like all wars, the Oslo War will end when the Palestinians recognize theyve been defeated, then theyll accept terms for a settlement, no sooner.
But you also overlook the title of this post. The authors aren't talking about paying for resettlement or compensation or even worrying about a home for the Palestinians. They are saying it's time to threaten them. Well, threats only carry weight if you have the means of carrying them out. So how do you see Israel doing it?
As I noted before, I dont support forced transfer, so I have no answer on how to accomplish it. To my knowledge, there isnt much support in Israel either. I posted the article, I didnt write it, so you need to ask the authors.
I do think its time for Israel to state, not threaten, that given the unavailability of a negotiating partner, that they will unilaterally annex a portion of the West Bank and Gaza, probably along the lines of the US Joint Chiefs suggestions in the late 60s, early 70s, leaving the rest for a demilitarized state. And yes, terrorists would be deported or jailed.
