Ron Dettemore mentioned the color during his press conference yesterday. He noted that the color could be called light rather than white. I got the impression he was stalling and playing rope-a-dope. He knows the color is significant just like you've noted, and one day he's going to be held accountable. He should get 10 years in a Federal, "pound-me-in-the-a**" prison.

The shuttle program director is only the last stop in the decision tree. The investigation will elucidate where the messages went.
Pointing fingers at one person is not responsible.
This vehicle's success was due to the efforts of thousands of workers. The vehicle's demise is also due to the mistakes of hundreds of people throughout the decision tree. The crew didn't return safely and that crushing reality is more painful than your off-handed commentary.

Your remarks on on Dettemore indicates that you are incapable of understanding that this tragic accident was caused by the misjudgement of hundreds of people involved in various aspects of the design. And everyone of those people would have gone to the ends of the earth to prevent what happened from occuring.
Certainly Dettemore himself does not deserve your self-serving smart-Z$$ed remarks. Your capacity for empathy is severely crippled.

You've been flamed enough for your comment. I would not go that far, but it was obvious to me from the initial press briefing that he was attempting a "limited modified hang-out."
It really torques me that people will go down clawing the concrete with their fingernails rather than just say "We had the choice of a desperate and dangerous attempt to save the crew, or hope that things were at the most optimisitic end of the spectrum and try to land normally. It didn't work out, here's my resignation, thank you for your time."
