1775 - "If your calculations are correct, the object is on the ground East of Nevada-95 and southeast of Tonopah. "
That put's it near the top of the diagonal portion of the cal/nev border, not far inside. I thought the owens valley was not far on the west side of the border.

Now this would be fun- (provided I could do it, all fiscal considerations aside) I take an RV or van out west, and some search equipment to the area noted. A lap top- satelite capable, cell phone, GPS receiver/transmitter, metal detector, binoculars, all terrain vehicle, cash, etc.
Use small airplane, ultra-light, horse, motorcycle, all terrain vehicle, on foot, etc. Scour countryside while receiving directions from Team Free Republic regarding coordinants- longitude and latitude. As facts and data changes, adjust search as Team FR hones in on holy grail (that damn left gear door).

Owen's Valley is quite a drive inside of California.
Between Owen's Valley and Nevada is Death Valley.
