CPAC has lost its roots. Modern "conservatism" has very little in common with traditional conservatism. The most obvious example of this truth is the modern "conservative" impulse to glorify the warfare state even as it denounces the welfare state. Traditional conservatism practiced by the likes of John Flynn, detested anything that empowered that state - whether it be war or welfare.

Traditional conservatism entailed love of country, and distrust, not hatred of the state.
When at war with an enemy trying to destroy us, we should stand by our countrymen and crticise our government when it errs. We should not seek to actively undermine it.
