Anti-war boycott hurting Rush? (It causes Rush Limbaugh's listeners to tune in more)

Anti-war boycott hurting Rush?

The leader of an anti-war activist media lobby and a report in CBS MarketWatch claim a boycott of Rush Limbaugh sponsors is working.

Kicked off just over a week ago by Take Back The Media, the effort seeks to intimidate sponsors of the No. 1 radio show in the country.

Micheal Stinson, a Vietnam-era veteran and co-founder of Take Back The Media, claimed on Bill O'Reilly's Fox News Channel show tonight that RadioShack, Bose and Amtrak have all dropped the Limbaugh program as a result of the boycott.

According to CBS MarketWatch, RadioShack spokesmen said any ads that aired on Limbaugh's show were a mistake to begin with. The company said it "strictly adheres to a policy of not intentionally buying advertising space on programs that might be political or socially controversial or that promote any one individual's agenda or point of view."

Amtrak told CBS MarketWatch that its ads were part of a complicated barter deal and that it normally does not sponsor political shows and "in the future ... will communicate [that] practice to" other partners.

All three companies told O'Reilly show staffers that the boycott had no impact on its advertising decisions.

Other advertisers targeted by Take Back the Media include Darden Restaurants' Red Lobster chain, Pfizer, AutoZone and online retailer Overstock.com – none of which would comment to CBS MarketWatch.

Limbaugh is syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks, a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications. While not addressing whether the show had lost any advertisers as a result of the boycott, Premiere issued the following written statement:

"There have been many times in the 15-year history of 'The Rush Limbaugh Program' when national and world events have generated increased listening as well as increased communication with individuals who have opposing points of view," said company President Kraig Kitchin. "The kind of compelling radio that generates opposition also causes Rush Limbaugh's weekly 20 million listeners to tune in that much more and listen longer."

"I'm kind of ticked with Cornwell right now since I don't want to read about Jack the Ripper and Isle of Dogs didn't do much for me....waiting very impatiently for her to bring back the Doc."

I heard there's a Doc book coming out in the Fall. I still haven't gotten over Wesley being murdered in such a gruesome way.

I saw Stinson last night on O'Reilly. He appeared to be in his early 40s or late 30s. If so, then how could he be a Vietnam Vet? The last American troops were pulled out of Vietnam in 1973 which would make Stinson too young to have been a Vietnam Vet. Does anybody out there know exactly how old Stinson is?

I went through technical training in the USAF with a Micheal Stinson in 1982. I am 42. He was a couple of years younger than I so he would be around 40. It was computer repair tech training. He seems to have some skills...I wonder if it's the same guy?

I know the guy. He graduated from high school in 1971, was born 1953 or so. He was an "administrative specialist" (clerk-typist) in the Air Force. Don't know whether he ever set foot in Vietnam. Possible, but I doubt it.

The libs have tried to silence Rush Limbaugh since he began broadcasting in 1988. They just can't compete with him and they know it. No lib on talk radio commands an audience the size Rush does. That speaks for itself.

He's married a wealthy younger Santa Barbara heiress, his second marriage. They live in a $650,000 condo in Maui, where they had a Hawaiian pagan priest bless their infant son.

There are 20 million dittoheads in this country. That's the largest following in the history of radio. Rush is an American phenomenon!

"Take Back The Media." Libs have no sense of irony. They control the lapdog media. Talk radio is the only medium that has completely eluded their grasping reach. Heck, in view of the lib domination of the rest of the media, its not a fatuous claim on the part of Rush that he is equal time. Conservatives have nowhere near the kind of exposure the libs have from a sympathetic press. What they are really after by extension is to shut conservatives up.

I'm considered a "Vietnam Era Veteran", I joined the USN in March 1974 and served until February 1978...Didn't even know that "Nam" was still in the news after 1973!

Is there a problem putting one in the house in your opinion? We're going to finish off the basement and would like to use it all year.

We have ours on the poured cement roof over the garage, which is a walkout from my office. This roof is a "rooftop garden," with scuppers that route the rainwater off the surface. The builder put steel beams in to hold this weight. Its open to the elements. We dump the water and clean the tub when June arrives because its too damned hot in the Missouri Ozarks in summer to get in a 100 degree hot tub. By September, things begin to cool a bit and we refill from the garden hose, put in the chemicals and we're set for eight or nine months.
Wife's counsins have one like ours. Their tub is in a game room with tile floor, converted from a two car garage. With the doors rolled down, the room is heated and the tub is used year round. In warm months, the garage doors are up and custom screens are in place. Moisture has not been a problem for them. Keep in mind, you'll need to attach a garden hose to the tub drain, so a floor drain would be a good idea, otherwise, you'll have to carry the water out in buckets.
Good luck.

Remember how fast the Snapple sales dropped when they quit advertising on Rush?

Yes! I haven't bought Snapple since. And come to think of it, I really don't see them in stores very often anymore...Hmmmmm!

There was that, but also, once they really took off (thanks to Rush!), at some point they stopped using sugar and began using high fructose corn syrup. Big mistake. The taste of their drinks changed. It may have been after Quaker Oats (I think) bought the company. Still, even with HFCS, I love the peach flavored iced tea.

Anyone who served during Vietnam is a Vietnam vet. Actually, they are Vietnam ERA vets, but most do not make distinctions about serving in the time frame or the country. By the way, want everyone to know John Kerry is a Vietnam vet--were y'all aware of that?
