I do want to jettison AOL - could I ask for your advice? Where do you suggest getting internet service instead? I'd like to pay less per month but still have unlimited use. Also, I have my AOL email name used everywhere, so it will be a pain to get a new email. Frreper advice is welcome. Thanks!

Changing e-mail is a pain, but you can do it. Keep both services active together for two or three months and do a gradual notification and changeover. You probably will find out as I did that a large number of e-mail addys in your address book are not used anyway.

Well, we use Earthlink. I have not seen Earthlink connected with any LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist causes.
There are others -- I think the NRA sponsors a USP, and I have seen others, but I generally ignore them because I have a service I like.

Pick one you like and give them a try. Ask your neighbors and friends which local provider they use. Avoid the super cheap guys. $19.95 to $25.95 is about normal. That allows you 10 megs for your own web site, too.
E-mail isn't hard to change, when you get the new account, just mail everybody in your AOL address book telling them your new address and then cancel your AOL account.
The new ISP should be able to walk you through all your browser setting on the phone.
You'll never regret losing AOL.

I got tired of getting kicked off and not being able to connect. Switched to Mindspring (Earthlink now). I was very happy with their service, excellent customer service.
I went with cable a few years ago, Time- Warner specifically. Now Earthlink is offering cable and I might switch.
Oh, If you ever quit AOL, BE SURE TO GET THE NAME OF THE PERSON YOU TALK TO AND THE CANCELLATION NUMBER , because, I promise, you will end up fighting with them about next month's charges.
