Its worse than that. The old foam did not shed and do the damage. It started happening when they used the new foam sans freon.

Are you sure on that? I saw a report that the tank used on this launch was a pre-2000 tank (ie: old) and was being phased out.

Also, anyone know if the original design where the tank was painted white ever shed foam insulation? I know they quit painting to save weight, but...maybe it was not such a good idea...
